This project would serve those adolescents who exhibit symptoms of Post Trauma disorders, those who cannot function in a regular school setting, but are too old to continue in those therapeutic centers meant for younger children. These youth, without program or school, are left isolated at home with families overwhelmed by and unable to supply for their special needs. Left in isolation without opportunity to progress their psychological condition deteriorates into further dysfunction
Furthermore, the classical academic setting as well as the classical curriculum cannot provide for the special psychological needs of these youth. Additionally, intensive therapy remains integral to their continued progress; thus an alternative education program which emphasizes and addresses the adolescent as a whole- physical, psychological, spiritual, intellectual and emotional- is crucial to their ability to bridge from adolescence to functional adulthood, the physical and emotional are addressed in the creation of a safe, loving. And accepting environment; the spiritual dimension, through a daily religion class and philosophical emphasis on each child as made in the image and likeness of God; intellectually, the youth will be encouraged to their capabilities.
Our Objectives:
1) To provide a space and program for the youth outside their homes
2) To provide an opportunity for the youth to socialize with others
3) To increase communication between these youth as well as their teachers, and families
4) To teach and encourage appropriate behaviors
5) To increase their ability to function in the society at large
6) To provide therapy to those youth who suffer from trauma
Expected Results:
1. The consistent attendance of the students
2. The formation of relationships and increased social activity with peers
3. Behavioral change and an increased ability to function independently in a common daily activities
4. Progress in their therapeutic needs according to goals established by therapist
Beneficiaries of the program:
1. Initially the beneficiaries of this program will include up to ten young males and females as well as their families. In providing a space and program geared towards the developmental progression of these youth, a significant weight is lifted from both the Youth, who are misunderstood and isolated at home, as well as their families, who do not have the experience or expand to provide for their children's special needs. In the future, the program hopes to expand to incorporate more persons and their families.
2. The community will benefit from a change of perspective and attitude towards these youth, placing value and worth on the development of the less able.
